President Merv introduced local girl, Dr Karyn Richardson from the Epworth Centre for Innovation in Mental Health. Karyn was enthusiastically supported at the meeting by her parents, Cheryl
and Alex (pictured) and her grandfather, Alex.
Karyn spoke of the development, over many years, of her passion for the brain and how it functions. She explained to the group the techniques she and her team of researchers use to assist people with brain disorders. She outlined two new techniques which solely target the brain.
• Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation which uses magnetic energy to stimulate the brain. This technique has been successful with patients presenting with depression.
• Deep Brain Stimulation, which requires surgery, and uses electrical energy to stimulate the brain.

Once again, Kevin and his team of students at Food 4 Thought, planned, prepared and served an excellent meal.
